Welcome to Habitat for Humanity of Summit CountyHabitat for Humanity of Summit County was organized as an affiliate in 1987. We are dedicated to providing simple, decent and affordable housing for low-income families in need. So far, Habitat for Humanity of Summit County has built 145 homes and has housed more than 180 adults and nearly 325 minors. Our homes are sold on a 20-year, no-interest mortgage to each partner family. This mortgage is paid directly to Habitat in monthly installments creating what is known as the “revolving fund for humanity”. The fund helps to provide Habitat with the means to operate the affiliate and to continue to provide additional housing for families in need. Habitat requires each family to complete 250 “sweat equity” hours per adult in the household before moving into their new home. These hours are completed through: helping build on their home and the homes of others, volunteering with other non-profits, and classroom sessions held by the affiliate. These classroom sessions are mandatory and provide the new homeowner with training on budgeting, maintenance of their new home, gardening, nutrition, first aid, and more. We believe that by providing this training we are helping to start this family off on the right foot in their new home.
